Manifold

Composer Morag Galloway

This world. Manifold.
Shall decay. Entropy. Void.
My kids. Won’t be grown!

Manifold was written specifically for Anna Snow and Kate Ledger. My idea was to use the duration of 100 seconds to act as a technical metaphor for the truncated amount of time humans are purported to have left on earth. This theme is focussed through the lens of motherhood and current eco-anxiety; Anna, Kate and myself are parents of young children. I am interested in the relationship between simplicity and abundance. The haiku—first conceptual, then emotional—complements the note row, used repeatedly, economically. This is metaphor for the freedom within constraint, and echoes patterns and repeats in nature.
